What does our collection reveal about us?

The time we live in is entertainment, discovery, learning, and convenience. The textbook and globe show our need for learning.  The phone cases show the phones that we use to keep us connected with people and entertain us.  The iron shows us what we use for convenience.  The iron is a simple way to take crinkles out of clothes in a short amount of time so we have more free time to do what we want.

Portia Munson's work is similar to our collection not only because of the color scheme but the way the sculptures portray our society.  They show the objects we use on a daily basis in society or use to entertain us everyday.

Is clutter like collecting? Why or why not?

Clutter is not like Collecting.  Clutter is a collection of things lying about in an untidy mass.  A collection is the action or process collecting someone or something.  My room is cluttered with dirty/clean cloths on the floor, empty mugs once filled with coffee, food bags, and piles of loose paper.  The clothes, mugs, paper, and food bags do not have any special meaning towards me in anyway.  A collection is something you have a personal connection with, for example some people collect a key chain for every trip they go on.  They have a personal connection to the key chain because it shows where they went and the stories they had from the vacation.  Each individual key chain has its own meaning towards the person.

Compare and contrast

I enjoyed drawing the bike because it was easier to make the bike come to life by taking the shades of black and creating darker and lighter shades to make objects look like they were behind each other.  The candy jar was hard to draw because you had to build up the jar with different colors to get the affect that the candy was in the jar.  Working with 3 different colors of black was easier for me than to work with 50 different colors of colored pencils.  The bike was easier to draw because the bike never changed from day to day.  The colors in the jar changed day by day depending on what the person behind the jar was wearing.  The candy jar is more appealing to the eye, but was a struggle for me to draw.

Candy Jar

Trying to make the candy inside the jar look as if it was inside the jar was very difficult.  When I took this picture I was still in the process of finishing it.  I added more white in the left corner to make the candy look as if it was in the jar.  I never realized how many colors could be seen inside of a jar. Being able to add color pencil onto another color was helpful to add the texture that was needed for the glass to look real.  The more colors I added onto the jar the more the jar looked like glass.

Bike Drawing

While working on this bike at first i was spectacle  about making a black and white imagine come to life.  After working on the bike for more than a week i became frustrated with the drawling.  Adding details to the drawling to make one object appear under the other was the most difficult.  After I added those necessary  details the drawling came to life.  Also, I learned how to place the image to fill the whole paper so my drawling did not look lost on the paper.  After all the shading was done, I was very proud of my finishing piece.  I never expected to draw something with so much detail.

Welcome

Hello! This summer I was fortunate enough to travel to Chicago, Illinois and Bar Harbor, Maine and explore the different cultures in the US.  I love to travel and I've recently became interested in photography. (The pictures above were taking by me)
